Flowers of the Cape West Coast vary depending on the season, and at most times of the year you can find something to catch your eye. The most wonderful thing about the West Coast of South Africa is that there are a number of areas where property and commercial development has been prohibited and nature has simply been allowed to run wild and free. Although spring boasts some marvellous flowers, winter is the rainy season in the Cape. Winter is thus the time of year when the majority of the special and beautiful flowers blossom bringing wonderful colours to the many mountains of the region. Tourism to the area is extremely popular and tourists are guaranteed to enjoy long walks in the exquisite mountains.

The wild flowers of the Cape West Coast are unique to the region and in fact, which makes them all the more special. One of the most common flowers in the region is the Protea, which comes in a variety of shapes and forms that attract tourists from around the world. The wonderful thing about the Tsitsikamma flowers and those around the area is that they are incredibly beautiful, and they can be found in completely undeveloped regions and natural parks. Whether it’s spring or winter there is plenty to see, so tourists are almost guaranteed a peek at the natural flora.

Beautiful Wild Cape Flowers

To view beautiful wild Cape flowers you need to make sure that it is the months of August and September. This is the time of the year you need to visit Ramskop Nature Reserve at Clanwilliams Dam Resort, because it boasts over 250 species of flowers. Here you will able to take walks down paths laid out through the garden. At the same time while taking in the beautiful flowers you can also admire Clanwilliam Dam and also the Cederberg mountains. During the months of August and September you will find this garden crowed with tourists. Make sure that you here between 11am and 3pm, because this is the best time to view the wild flowers.

You should definitely visit Ramskop Nature Reserve this year if you would like to look at some of the beautiful wild Cape Flowers, and one of those flowers is Fynbos. You will be able to find over 8500 varieties here, which have been identified. 6000 of that 8500 is endemic, and this means that that it only found in a specific area. Some of the most noticeable is the Clanwilliam Cedar and the Snow Protea. These plants grow in the isolated areas. In the winter months you will find that the Snow Protea will be covered when the snow falls. Clanwillaim’s Snow Protea can survive the harshest weather, from cold to heat and you will find these grow in bare rocks and in crevices.

These plants can live for 70 years and it takes only 12 months to open. Flowers will start appearing after 3 or 4 months. You will also find the Bucha wild flower here in Clanwilliam’s mountains. This is also the only place where you will be able to find Rooibos. This is also the place where the plant is processed and then exported. Make sure that you visit Ramskop Nature Reserve this year and admire these beautiful wild Cape flowers.
